How It All Started

Hi, I started HouseBuying-Tips.com in 2003 to help homebuyers avoid the costly mistakes I made when buying my first home. Having lost several thousand dollars due to lazy realtors and an under-qualified home inspector, and having nearly lost out on finding our current home, I decided to create a website with the tips and resources I used during the home buying process – and several more I learned about after getting burned.

Buying a house is a stressful, busy – and exciting – event. So I decided to share with you the mistakes and lessons I learned the hard way. Hopefully, you won’t have to experience these same costly mistakes.

While I am not a professional realtor or real estate expert, I did take enough notes – and make enough mistakes – during our most recent home buying experience that unfortunately I feel I’m qualified to call myself a “home buying mistake expert”. And I hope these tips will help you save lots of time, money, and headaches, too.

There are lots of resources for new homebuyers. You can find them online, in your local library, in a bank or realtor’s office. And all of them can be valuable to help you learn as much as you can. But there is no replacement for good old common sense. You definitely should learn as much as you can about the home buying process BEFORE you start house hunting. But you also need to think through each decision, don’t allow your self to be pressured into making a decision you are not ready to make, and of course there’s no better guide than the old saying – IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE…

I’m happy to share with you all the lessons I’ve learned. But you should definitely do your own research, talk with several realtors, talk with several mortgage brokers, and have a plan in mind when you start the process. If you have any questions along the way, or just need to talk with someone who has been through the process of buying a house, please feel free to contact me. And I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Happy house hunting!
